Vampire fangs, temp tattoos, corsets and skulls
Aviatrix had a great idea - Could you have a part of the event that people touched by Elizabeth all over the world can participate in? I don't mean a webcast, or something we watch, but something we do or wear. Something out of the ordinary enough that people will ask us why, and we can tell them about Elizabeth.
If anyone would like to participate, I propose that on May 19th you apply a temporary tattoo and if you own something with skulls on them or own a corset that you go wear them. On May 19th Elizabeth would have turned 43. You may recall that she challenged readers on a previous birthday to go outdoors and experience life, and so many of you did. I think Elizabeth would have liked a remembrance from her virtual family.
I think Elizabeth would have also approved of the lady who's doing her cremation. When I gave her Beth's yukata kimono she asked if there was anything else. I gave her one of Beth's skel-animal plushies and Beth's new fangs. She asked if I'd like her to put them on. I said she didn't have to, but she was really cool about and with a big grin said she would. She also gave me some tips on scattering ashes illegally.
Will keep you posted on a local celebration of life.

What a great idea! And that's far enough ahead that I can go shopping for something with skulls on...
Linda: mabe it was a bit early, but on April 6, I challenged the Industry Canada exam for amateur radio operators, and passed. I registered in a class in part becaues of Beth's desire to have people try semething new.
On my 19, I'll be happy to wear a skull tattoo if I can find one; or the blue Gotta Fly bracelet, even if it is a bit too small for my wrist. But no corsets for me, thanks. :)
Love and zen hugs to you and Cheryl, and to Beth in memoriam,
Neil

I was also thinking of the same birthday, when she had us all go do something, encouraging all of those of us who were ill to leave our homes and to enjoy the day.
Maybe any of us who can could also have a picnic--in the park and/or visit a local cemetery?
Wonderful idea. I'll be sure to do something. Have to plot something good.
How lovely that you found someone who sounds perfect for the cremation - she gets it. Beth would approve.
Wheelchair love temporary tattoos:

I will definitely do this, and post pictures. I like Frida's idea of a picnic in the park or visiting a cemetary.
I guess here is a good place to put my tribute post to her. I wasn't sure which of my blogs to use, but in the end, my fan blog seemed best: http://tilmon.livejournal.com/154475.html
If I can find a temporary tattoo that looks appropriate, I'll do it (that'll be a first for me!) but either way I'll be wearing my 'Girls Gotta Fly' T-shirt, the one with the wheelchair and the golden wings.
Btw, and I love what 'yanub' posted about Beth in the 'tilmon' blog : "A really amazing woman who went through the fires of hell and described them in detail, and still found joy in life."
(Wish I could have come up with those words!)
Love & peace
I will wear something, for sure.
Thank you for keeping us updated, Linda...it's very good of you to do so.

Ah, someone who understands the importance of fangs. I shall think of her thus.
A temporary tattoo and 'something new' sound together like a perfect Beth-tribute. I'll have to come up with something...
Neil, congrats!
I think it's a wonderful idea, count me in! Corset and skulls I've got covered. I'll see what else I can come up with too. :)

I came across Beth's blog while searching for some comfort for my own needle phobia (and after explaining to a Dr. that I really did need THAT MUCH valium to be calm...It's cool, she listened without need for a freak-out demo !!YAY!]. I loved Beth's humor and wit; and I didn't feel so alone. I am so sorry for your loss and will proudly honor her on May 19.
Linda...corsets and skulls eh?
Beth was certainly a fascinating and unique individual and well deserving of a fitting tribute..so..skulls and corsets it will be!
I will miss her blog..she was a very gifted writer.
If anyone wants to send photos, please do and I'll post them.
Thanks everyone for your kind words.
Linda
This is such a creative and beautiful way to honor a creative and beautiful person! I know I'm not in the inner circle (or close to it- I met Beth back in the olden days of the Gay Christian Network), but I'll try to send a pic. She made a lasting impact on me, and I'm forever grateful.
I'm going to the hooding ceremony for my Ph.D. this afternoon, and will be wearing my gothiest clothing underneath my robe to celebrate my brilliant friend Elizabeth. Looking forward to seeing how everyone else marks this day in true EFM fashion (no pun intended), and keeping you in my thoughts, Linda.
We have spent the day in the garden (loving the outdoors!), filling the bird feeders and preparing for summer. Shall be applying the temporary tattoos with the children after bath time this evening. As a family we were all sad to hear of Elizabeth's passing, the children and I have loved getting mail from her these last few years. With love and best wishes from Lowestoft, UK.

In memory of Elizabeth we took time today to talk about how much we have learned from her and the many insights and experiences we have gained because of knowing her. Elizabeth was a very unique individual who lived life to the full and didn't let her disability stop her from fulfilling her dreams. Our lives have been enriched because of who she was. Murray & Pat
I swam a half mile today in the open ocean: something I've always wanted to do but have been scared to try alone. Fortunately, my boyfriend came with me for moral support. Elizabeth knew me as a "Side B" guy, so I think she'd be proud on multiple levels here. I have a picture if you're collecting them, but don't know where to send it. You can reach me as Romans6 on both GCN and gmail.
please send any photos to my email at linda dot mcclung at shaw.ca
